Boise St. beats Utah Valley in OT

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Reserves Jamar Greene and Paul Noonan combined for 11 of Boise States 14 overtime points Friday night as the Broncos held on for a 73-72 victory over Utah Valley in the season opener for both schools.

With 10 seconds left in overtime and trailing 73-70, Utah Valley worked the ball to junior guard Ryan Toolson for a 3-point attempt that hit the front rim. Jordan Brady tipped the shot in for two points just before time ran out.

Toolson led all scorers with 29 points and Brady added 17. Boise State was led by Reggie Larry with 20 points and Matt Nelson with 15. Noonan ended the game with 13 points and Greene scored eight.

Independent Utah Valley had a chance to win in regulation when the Wolverines had possession with 10 seconds left and the score tied at 59. Utah Valley worked the ball to Toolson, but his shot was blocked with two seconds left and BSU was unable to get off a final shot.

Boise State got eight consecutive points from Greene and Noonan in the overtime before Utah Valley was able to score with 55 seconds left on a Toolson 3-pointer. After being down 69-62 with 34 seconds left, the Wolverines chipped away until they trailed 73-70 with 10 seconds to go, setting up the 3-point attempt.

Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference hit only 32 percent of its field goal attempts, including just 5 of 31 from 3-point range. The Broncos outrebounded the Wolverines 22-9 and forced 28 turnovers.

Utah Valley hit 7 of 12 free throw attempts while Boise State went to the line 27 times, hitting 20.
