DRAPER — Draper has a new police chief.
Bryan Roberts was named Thursday as the city's new chief, replacing Mac Connole who retired earlier this year.
Roberts had been the chief of the Menlo Park, Calif., Police Department since 2010, a department with 47 sworn officers and 23 non-sworn employees. Menlo Park, located between San Franciso and Palo Alto, has a population of about 34,000 people.
Prior to Menlo Park, Roberts was with the Citrus Heights Police Department and the Ventura Police Department where he began his law enforcement career in 1986. He was a member of the department's SWAT team for 17 years.
“I’m eager to serve the Draper community and work with all stakeholders to enhance the exceptional quality of life that Draper has to offer,” Roberts said in a prepared statement released Thursday.
Roberts will begin serving as chief on Aug. 6. He will make about $105,000 per year.
Roberts replaces Connole whose retirement was effective March 2. Connole has been Draper's only police chief since establishing its own department in 2003. Draper has 36 sworn officers and 14 non-sworn employees.
