GARRISON, Utah (AP) -- A motorcycle rider collided with a cow on a Beaver County road and died after being thrown from the bike.

Steven R. Casper was westbound on State Road 21, which crosses an open range area for cattle. The Utah Highway Patrol says a black cow was standing in Casper's lane and Casper couldn't avoid hitting the animal.

The 7:30 p.m. collision sent Casper flying through the air. He landed a great distance from the collision and died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Troopers say Casper was wearing a helmet.

Troopers say Casper's wife, Sharla, was driving in the area trying to find her husband and came upon the accident.
