KEARNS — A Kearns woman was charged Wednesday with forging reimbursement checks to herself.

Amanda Aphay, 27, generated 32 reimbursement checks from Bridge Property Management that totaled to $68,485.63, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court. The checks date from Jan. 1, 2011 to Feb. 10 of this year. Aphay confessed Feb. 10 and was immediately terminated and an investigation began, the charges state.

Aphay was allegedly able to carry on the sham for over a year because she would bury the checks in stacks of legitimate documents to be signed, according to court documents.

She is charged with theft by deception, a second-degree felony, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
