(KSL News) The Salt Lake County Council likes rail transportation, even if the Salt Lake Council of Governments doesn't.

The county council voted 7-2 to give the Utah Transit Authority an estimated $2.5 billion. The funds would cover two west-side TRAX developments and a FrontRunner line from Salt Lake City to the Utah County line.

This comes as the council of governments reconsiders funding for the same projects because it found rails to have an unfair advantage over roads due to a calculation error.

The council of governments is set to vote on the issue Thursday.
