SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- Snow College used great special teams to propel itself to a hard fought 22-9 victory over division rival Scottsdale Community College Saturday.

Behind three field goals from Joe Phillips and a blocked punt for a touchdown by Tu Tui, the Badgers rolled to the victory under the lights in Arizona.

"We knew coming in this was going to be a hard fought, defensive battle," said Snow head Coach Steve Coburn. "Scottsdale is a tough team, especially if you have to face them on the road. I was impressed with how our special teams stepped up to win the ball game."

Snow put up only 210 offensive yards in the game against the stingy Artichoke defense. In the defense battle, Scottsdale only managed 185 yards of its own. The victory brought Snow to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in league play. The No. 1 ranked Badgers have won 12 games in a row dating back to last year.

Snow took a 12-6 lead into halftime, scoring first on a 14 yard Houston Erbstoesser pass to receiver Troy Cummings, and then tacked on two field goals before Scottsdale scored a touchdown of its own 17 seconds before halftime. Scottsdale and Snow traded field goals before the blocked punt in the fourth quarter, which Snow recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.

Snow running backs Niu Takai and Soni Sotele combined for 127 yards and Erbstoesser completed 11 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Snow will look to defend its national ranking hosting unbeaten No. 4 Eastern Arizona Saturday at Noon at Badger Stadium in Ephraim. The winner will remain the Western States Football League's only undefeated team.
