Andrew Adams, KSL Newsradio Call him lucky, call him resourceful; either way a teen accused of murder nearly got away at the Ogden District Courthouse. Now, the Weber County Sheriff's Office is looking at transporting prisoners differently.
There's a smirk on Capt. Klint Anderson's face as he looks back at the escape attempt in disbelief. "The kid's clever," Anderson said. "They tell me there was only a couple feet or so left before the door was fully closed when the kid fell and rolled underneath it.
Before that, the teen fell out of the transport van when the deputy opened the door. That's after he unlocked half of his shackles with a key. How he got it? Nobody knows.
Already, deputies are talking about changes. "The most obvious one is: we never should have opened the van door until the bay door was completely closed," Anderson said.
The teen was caught a few blocks away and faces another felony charge.
