SALT LAKE CITY — More than 1,000 of the finest and most talented dogs in the country come together Thursday through Sunday as the Salt Lake County Equestrian Center played host to the American Kennel Club Dog Show.

U of U leader listed in "30 Women to Watch
Joyce Ogburn, Dean of the J. Willard Marriott Library and University Librarian for the University of Utah, was recently listed in Utah Business Magazine's "30 Women to Watch."
Ogburn serves on the board of the Center for Research Libraries and the council of the Utah Academic Library Consortium and is a member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club.
"I'm honored to be included in this list alongside other female leaders who are determined to make a difference in their profession and their community," she said.

Activities will be available to the public Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rio Grande Depot at 300 S. Rio Grande St. in Salt Lake City.
The activities will be hosted by Utah State History in celebration of Archaeology Week, May 5-12.

The Springville Museum of Art will hold its annual art ball May 12, 6:30-10:30 p.m., to fundraise for the museum. Attendees can view art and artist demonstrations, eat dinner catered by Magleby's, and dance in the museum's galleries and gardens.
Miniature originals from local artists will also be auctioned off.

Free parenting class:
The Utah County Women, Infants and Children program is sponsoring a free parenting class called "Happiest Baby on the Block" on Wednesday, May 9 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Utah County Health and Justice Building, 151 S. University Ave., Provo.
Parents will learn methods to soothe fussy babies. The class is free and open to the public. Parents can bring their babies.

Davis County seeking historical photographs
Davis County is seeking help locating information and photographs of past Davis County elected officials. The county is also hoping to get old photographs of Davis County buildings and historical events.
The county is also interested in collecting quality old photographs of the county buildings, events, the fair, parades, etc. These photos — or copies of photos — can be displayed in the new county building as well as in future publications documenting the people, places and events that have helped shape Davis County over the past 160 years.

More elk may be allowed in Utah
Plans that determine the total number of deer and elk in Utah are up for revision, and state wildlife officials are seeking the public's input.
If approved, the 2,140 additional elk would be scattered across the following units: Chalk Creek, Kamas, Avintaquin, West Desert, Fillmore and Fish Lake.
Members of the public can email their respective Regional Advisory Council with input.
