SALT LAKE CITY — A University of North Carolina basketball player is receiving attention this week for his decision to serve a Mormon mission.
UNC's newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, features a 2,600-word article on Stilman White. White is a freshman backup point guard for the Tar Heels and started for the team during the recent NCAA playoffs.
Journalist Kelly Parsons notes White's progress on the court.

"In just one year, the North Carolina point guard has gone from being the Tar Heels' last resort to being their answer," Parsons wrote.
The article focuses on White's decision to leave this summer on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which he has no second thoughts about. It recounts White's history and his eager anticipation of the missionary experience.

Episcopal priest tours temple

Episcopal priest and theologian Danielle Tumminio writes in the Huffington Post about her tour of the Kansas City LDS Temple.
She attended an open house for the temple to find out what it looks like, what happens inside, and "Would I feel God's presence in this space, even though it's not a space that's sacred for me?"
"Like Dante, who saw God face to face but had no words to describe the encounter, I have few words to describe what I felt in that moment," she writes. "But I can say this: While it did not convert me, nor did it make me want to be a Mormon, the silence and peace I felt reminded me of the many other times I've felt close to God, whether in an Episcopal cathedral, in a clear, warm ocean or in my ratty old car. And because of that, I came to understand why temples exist and why they are so important to Mormons across the world."

Rock Church Reopens

A landmark LDS chapel will reopen this weekend in Cedar City.
The Spectrum reports restoration of the "Old Rock Church" on Center Street is now complete. The building is set for rededication Sunday evening.
The distinct church was built with stone at the start of the Great Depression. Renovations include hardwood floors and wall panels that covered the windows have been taken down. New window panes were installed and original benches also have been restored. A central heating and air conditioning system is also part of the upgrade.
