OGDEN — A new dash cam video has been released in the Ogden shooting that injured five police officers and killed one. The video shows officers scrambling to grab bulletproof vest amidst a flurry of gunfire.

The video raises the question about whether officers were prepared before serving a search warrant at Matthew Stewart's Ogden residence.

Ogden Police have a strict policy when it comes to its officers wearing a bulletproof vest, but it is not uncommon for officers to carry a spare.

The recently released video shows an officer pulling up to the scene to an exchange of gunfire. Immediately, the officer starts digging through the trunk of a patrol car, searching for gear. Two minutes later, another officer runs by with more bulletproof vests in his hands.

Another officer is heard yelling for accused gunman, Matthew Stewart, to give up, but Stewart refuses to give up and apparently jumps out the back window.

The video continues with an officer yelling that he's lost sight of Stewart, but seconds later, officers discovered his hiding place, which lead to more gunfire."

Ogden Police will not comment on the video, but say anyone in uniform is required to wear a protective vest while on duty. They are also mandatory for plain clothes officers serving warrants on a felony suspect.

However, vests can also serve another purpose, police say. Often, the extra vests can be used as a shield or they can be lined across their vehicles to act as armor.

Ogden officers were not the only officers who responded to Stewart's home, but other agencies have similar policies that require uniformed, field officers to wear vest on duty.
