PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Utah Valley State College student has pleaded not guilty to gun charges alleging he bought the guns after providing false information for a background check.

Kidus Chane Yohannes appeared in 4th District Court yesterday.

The 20-year-old Ethiopian immigrant is accused of giving a false alien registration number to a gun dealer last year when he bought two rifles.

Yohannes was arrested in June after his roommates gave police rifles and ammunition they found in their residence.

They said Yohannes had been stockpiling guns, had an obsession with mass violence and was despondent after losing his job.

A trial is set for January 2.
