ST. GEORGE — A race of not-so monumental proportions still delivered on the adrenaline at the St. George Municipal Airport Friday.
Go-cart versions of Indy racing cars topped out at about 7 miles an hour at Skywest Airlines' Mini Indy. Even some lawn mowers have more horse power.
But the lack of speed did not diminish the competitive drive of the 37 corporate teams participating — some coming from Brazil and Australia.
"Some people put as much as $5,000 worth of paint on their $1,000 car. It's unbelievable how into it some of these teams get," said Mart Mortensen, assistant city manager of St. George.
But it's not just about who takes home the Grand Championship trophy. Skywest says this year's Mini Indy raised more than $80,000 for the United Way.
