SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Four people have been killed and two children injured in a three-vehicle accident near Gunnison.
Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Nigbur said a Ford pickup truck crossed the center lane on U.S. 89 about 5:45 p.m. Thursday and sideswiped a Chevy pickup pulling a trailer carrying a small tractor.
He said the impact caused the first truck, driven by Annette Cunz, 50, of Redmond, to lose its front left wheel and it continued on into oncoming traffic crashed head-on with a van carrying five people.
Cunz was killed, as were Charles Kirk, 67, of Gunnison and his wife, Doris Kirk, 71, who were in the van.
Three of the Kirks' grandchildren, ages 2, 4 and 14, were flown to Utah Valley Hospital where the four-year-old died. The other two were in poor to serious condition.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor, at this point. They are unsure if anyone was wearing seatbelts.
