(KSL News) Today the 2007 Special Olympics Fall Sports Classic celebrated its games with an opening ceremony.

This competition is one of seven in the state. All the athletes participating in these games qualified in their own areas and will now compete against others from around the state. They will compete in aquatics, basketball and bocce.

Police officers escorted a torch and, with the help of some participants, held a special lighting of the Special Olympics torch.

Some of the athletes from the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in China flew in to celebrate as well.

The next world games will be in 2009, held in Boise Idaho.
