(KSL News) State education officials say at least 35 schools may have been mislabeled as failing the Adequate Yearly Progress tests.

Officials in the Granite and Alpine school districts first brought attention to the problem. Several schools in those districts were classified as failing, even though they technically passed the AYP due to specific rules.

One of those rules allows schools to average student progress over a three-year period, rather than just look at progress by individual years.

The State Board of Education is now looking into the matter and whether schools in other districts were wrongly classified.
