SALT LAKE CITY — Barbara Bagley found hope again when her lost dog miraculously found his way home. Her dog, Dooley, was lost in the Nevada desert for 53 days, but is now back home in Salt Lake City.

Bagley was involved in a terrible car accident last December while she was traveling on I-80 through Nevada. The crash killed her husband and her other dog, and Dooley was lost in the desert.

Bagley suffered a collapsed lung and a broken rib and wrist from the accident, but she and her friends kept looking for Dooley.

"You want a family member back, and that's what Dooley is," said Kurt Bagley, Barbara's son. "At what length would you go to help a family member out and bring them home?"

Dooley was found last week after spending close to two months in the desert near Battle Mountain, Nev. Thanks to missing dog fliers, someone saw Dooley, caught him, and called Bagley with the good news.

When she got Dooley back, Bagley felt like she got a big part of her life back as well. "He [Dooley] gives me hope," she said, "his survival, and just the protection he was given while he was out there."

Bagley feels it was her husband, who died in the car accident, who helped Dooley get home.

While she will probably never know the full story behind Dooley's rescue, Bagley doesn't care. "He's just a bright spot in my life, and he makes me happy," she said.
