UINTAH, Utah (AP) -- Two candidates running for the Uintah City Council are just about locks to get elected next month.
They're the only two who are on the ballot -- and there are three openings. The deadline to register is Tuesday.
The two candidates who are on the ballot are Gary Laird and Charles Thorsted. Both are incumbents and at this point need only one vote to be re-elected.
Thorsted says he'd rather have some competition and see more people get involved in local government.
The city sent out a newsletter in September informing residents about the lack of candidates and instructions for filing as a write-in candidate. It's free to register, but applicants must do it in person.
The requirements for candidates are being 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, a Uintah resident and be registered to vote.
