ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - A former "American Idol" semifinalist from Utah has been arrested on warrants alleging two counts of misdemeanor theft.

Police say 20-year-old Tamara Taylor Vaifanua was released from the Washington County jail near St. George after posting $2,529 bail on Thursday, a day after she was arrested in her southern Utah hometown of Hurricane.

According to court documents, the alleged thefts took place in the Sandy area of northern Utah in September 2010. No details of the thefts were immediately available.

The Spectrum of St. George and Salt Lake Tribune report the arrest warrants were issued after she failed to appear in court on the charges.

No new court date was immediately set.

In 2008, Vaifanua made it into the top 36 contestants of "American Idol" before being eliminated.
