ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) -- Three people are presumed dead after their medical plane slammed into a Colorado mountainside, leaving wreckage described by rescuers as "catastrophic."
Archuleta County administrator Bob Campbell could not provide additional details. But a search for the victims was under way.
The plane had disappeared during a flight from Chinle, Arizona, to Alamosa, Colorado.
The wreckage was found in mountainous terrain just west of the Continental Divide near 11,677-foot high Charleys Peak.
An emergency locator transmitter helped pinpoint the plane's location.
The Federal Aviation Administration says flight controllers lost radio and radar contact with the twin-engine Beech King Air C-90A late Thursday.
The FAA says a pilot, flight nurse and paramedic were on the plane.
The plane is registered to Scenic Aviation of Blanding, Utah, which operates an air ambulance service called Eagle Air Med.
