FORT DUCHESNE, Uintah County — Federal investigators are looking into a single-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured another.

The crash happened Friday about 6:30 p.m. on the Seep Ridge Road about 49 miles south of Fort Duchesne, according to Uintah County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Fletcher.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find a 42-year-old Fort Duchesne woman dead and a 43-year-old woman injured. The driver of the vehicle had fled, Fletcher said.

The injured woman was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., where she was treated and released.

Authorities located the driver of the vehicle a short time later. Alcohol use is a suspected factor in the crash, Fletcher said.

Because the crash occurred on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation, and because the two women are tribal members, the investigation was turned over to Bureau of Indian Affairs police and the FBI.

Neither federal agency has released any additional information about the crash.
