Randall Jeppesen, KSL Newsradio Utah's Humane Society is calling for an investigation of the Pleasant Grove Police Department after an animal control officer admitted to releasing a cat into the wild instead of taking it to a shelter.
The owner of the cat says the officer needs to be charged.
Bobbi Anthony says she's doing everything possible to find her cat. She's going to shelters, searching the canyons above Pleasant Grove, hoping and praying.
Her cat got out of her yard, and the neighbor called police. The officer that picked up the cat dropped it off in the canyon to save it from being euthanized, but he was supposed to take it to the shelter where it would sit for three days for Bobbi to come claim it.
"How many more are there? How many others, you know, Pleasant Grove residents' cats haven't shown up at the shelter," she questioned.
She now wants the officer charged for animal abuse. Police Capt. Cody Cullimore says the officer has been verbally reprimanded.
