WEST JORDAN — A South Jordan nanny was charged with child abuse after a physician found injuries to a 3-month-old baby indicated abuse.
Makenzie Kaye Riddle, 21, was a nanny for the West Jordan child four days a week, according charges filed Tuesday in the 3rd District Court. The parents claimed that on several occasions between Sept. 1 and Sept. 23, they would return home to find one or more bruises on their son. Riddle would explain they were caused by accidents, charges state.
On Sept. 23, the infant allegedly had a black eye and the parents took him to the emergency room at Primary Children's Medical Center. A pediatrician found scattered bruises across the baby's forehead and a healing fracture on his rib, the charges state. The pediatrician indicated rib fractures are "highly specific for abuse in infants."
Riddle was charged with two counts of child abuse, both second-degree felonies.
