RICHFIELD — A 34-year-old man was killed Sunday in an avalanche near Lost Creek Reservoir in Fishlake National Forest.

Brady Davis of Richfield was snowmobiling with three other men when an avalanche was triggered around 5 p.m., according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office. Two men were caught in the slide but were able to get free, while a fourth avoided the avalanche altogether.

Brett Kobernik, a forecaster with the Utah Avalanche Center, said Davis was buried in about 4 feet of snow, but his friends were able to find him using avalanche transceivers. When they located him and dug him out of the snow, Davis was dead, the sheriff's office reported.

Search and Rescue officials from Sevier, Piute and Wayne Counties were joined by local volunteers in the efforts to recover Davis' body. It was anticipated that those from the Utah Avalanche Center and the U.S. Forest Service would be testing conditions in the area Monday.
