WEST VALLEY CITY — Employees of a West Valley City restaurant stopped a would-be robber by spraying oven cleaner in his face and holding him until police arrived.

Police say a man with a gun walked into the kitchen of El Calor Taqueria at 2875 S. Redwood Rd. around closing time Sunday night and demanded money.

After a struggle, one of the employees sprayed oven cleaner in the man's face. He dropped to the floor with chemical burns to his face and eyes.

At least three employees sat on top of the man until police arrived.

The suspect was booked into Salt Lake County Jail.
