WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) -- After missing several hearings, a woman charged in connection with her friend's overdose death was finally in court today.
This morning, 18-year-old Macall Aubrey Petersen pleaded guilty to two of the five charges against her -- negligent homicide and desecration of a dead body. The other three charges were dropped.
The charges stem from the drug-overdose death of her friend 18-year-old Amelia Sorich. Petersen injected Sorich with a mix of cocaine and heroin at a party last June that eventually killed her. She then helped dumped Sorich's body in the foothills above Bountiful.
Two weeks ago, Petersen was arrested after she failed to show up for her third court appearance. She's been in jail ever since.
Petersen is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30th. She faces up to five years in prison.
