ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- Dixie State College could be getting closer to becoming the University of Utah, St. George.

Dixie State's board of trustees met yesterday to finalize the details of a proposal to affiliate with the University of Utah. If the U of U board approves next week, the two schools will start working out the details and submit it to the state board of regents.

If everything is approved, the Legislature could be considering the proposal in 2009.

According to the petition, the St. George campus would be officially named the University of Utah, St. George. But it will be referred to as the Dixie campus and no longer use the nickname "Rebels" for sports teams.
