Randall Jeppesen, KSL Newsradio Utah hunters are gearing up for their fall hunting trips, and county sheriff's office deputies are preparing to spend a lot more time in the mountains as well.
Hunting season is a big deal in Utah, and Utah County Sheriff's spokesperson Yvette Rice says they treat it like a big deal. "Specifically during hunting seasons we try to pay special attention to those areas in the canyons that we know the hunters frequent," she said.
Rice says most people obey try to obey the rules. "But there is that really small portion of the population that just doesn't do it," Rice said.
She says one of the biggest problems they find in the hills is people getting drunk while carrying their guns. They also find poachers and a lot of other violations.
