SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A man is facing charges for allegedly impersonating an officer.
The 25-year-old man was arrested on Monday at the Fashion Place Mall in Murray.
Police say the man was shopping at one of the stores when an employee noticed he had a gun. The man apparently said he was a police officer from Rhode Island, and that he drove his patrol car and could arrest people.
However, police say the employee was still skeptical, and went and got mall security. When the officer asked the man for ID, he refused and became belligerent.
The man was then arrested and taken to jail for investigation of impersonating an officer.
Investigators later found out the man did have a concealed weapons permit and worked for a Rhode Island district attorney. However, he worked in an administrative role and had NO arresting authority at all.
