(KSL NewsRadio) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gives an update on the progress of the downtown mall project. Presiding Bishop H. David Burton says the cost of the project has gone way up in the last two and a half years.
"We're quite a bit north of the amount we projected," he says.
Bishop Burton says Hurricane Katrina pushed up the cost of construction. The church is not giving a timeline for demolition or construction. Bishop Burton says as of right now, a skybridge between the two blocks is still in the plans because the retails stores want the bridge to be built.
Bishop Burton told council members not to plan on much sales tax revenue from the two block area for the next two to four years.
