TAYLORSVILLE — A 48-year-old man police say fired a rifle inside his house and initially refused to come out, eventually surrendered after his home was surrounded by a SWAT team.
Taylorsville police responded just after 10 p.m. to a house near 3500 West and 5600 South after receiving a call of possible domestic violence, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Tracy Wyant.
When officers arrived, the man's wife and child were allowed to leave the house on their own but the husband refused to come out, Wyant said. While police were on scene, they heard a shot fired from a rifle from inside the house.
A SWAT team was called to surround the house. The husband later surrendered without further incident. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of several misdemeanors including domestic violence in front of a child, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, using a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol and discharging a weapon within city limits.
Wyant said the man's criminal history included arrests for minor crimes outside of Utah.
