(KSL NewsRadio) Reporting and recovering from identity theft becomes easier for Utahns today. The identity theft task force and the Utah Attorney Generals office is set to unveil the "IRIS" website.
The Identity Theft Reporting Information System allows identity theft victims to enter information at one website, and have it uploaded to all the jurisdictions where the crime has been committed.
IRIS Project Director Scott Morrill says it's a great help to victims.
"Law enforcement will take that, enter the case number, their information, phone number. That information will then go back to the website and then victims can log into the website and get the case number, law enforcement information and they can take that and apply it to various affadavits."
Morrill says the website also provides victims with a checklist of things to do to begin resolving their credit problems.
A new federal report shows identity theft fraud hit an estimated 3.6 million households in the U.S. in 2004.
