SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man was critically injured Thursday afternoon when he was hit by a TRAX train at the Center Pointe Station, 256 W. 2100 South.

Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gerry Carpenter said the 40-year-old man sustained head and leg injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. But Carpenter said investigators are not sure what he was doing when he was hit.

The TRAX train operator didn't even know he'd hit someone, and he left the scene. A witness pulled the man off the TRAX.

The accident is causing significant delays among TRAX trains across the Salt Lake Valley, which are expected to last through the evening commute.

More will be posted as it becomes available.
