HERRIMAN -- Lynette Hamblin first heard about the Up house in Herriman on a Disney forum in May, and she sent it out to the Internet that she was going to live in that house.
Eight months later, she and her husband, Clint Hamblin, moved from Northern California. After a short stay for the holidays with family nearby, the couple began unpacking the first boxes of their things in the colorful house designed after one of their favorite movies. Clint was the first of the two to see it, and when he came home he described the house in detail to his wife.
"As soon as he started describing it, I was teary eyed and crying, and he said ‘I really think we need to try to buy this,' " she said.
Lynette, a glass artist who draws inspiration from Disney and Pixar films, describes herself as a "Disney fanatic." So when they were buying the house from Bangerter homes, the Hamblins chose to purchase the majority of the furniture on the first floor, keeping true to the house's original theme.
"Pretty much everything on the main floor we've kept, to keep it authentic," Lynette said. "We're just going to add in some of our pictures, and some of my Disney-inspired artwork."
They'll even keep the pictures from the movie that line the staircase wall, mixing in their own family photos among those of Carl and Ellie Fredricksen.
The love story of Carl and Ellie and the bond between Wilderness Explorer Russel and an elderly widower will serve as memories that give this home life. And just like Carl and Ellie's childhood love story, the Hamblins have one of their own. The couple met while attending Copper Hills High School together in West Jordan.
"We're going to grow old here," Lynette said.
