Police don't have an answer either, but they say the incident may have started as road rage.

Sgt. Victor Quezada, Sandy Police Dept.: "There was no exchange of words, just the car was passing by, and that's when the hand gestures occurred and some verbal comments."

The suspect made a U-turn on Sego Lily Drive and followed the victim to the fast food restaurant, where the encounter became violent.

Victor Quezada: "One of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle, ran into the back of the bed of his pickup truck and started punching him in the back of his head through the open window."

Another suspect began punching the victim through the driver's side door.

Victor Quezada: "He then pulled him out of the car and onto the ground, and they both started kicking him in the upper torso area and the face."

The victim's 19-year old passenger told police she recognized one of the suspects from high school.

Victor Quezada: "She knows him just from school just as a high school classmate, but nothing further."

Police know who he is, but when officers went to his house, he ran out the back door.
