(KSL News) Utah ranks dead last in the nation when it comes to how much money is spent per-pupil in K through 12 schools.
The national average is about $8,200. We spend $5,000.
The highest is New Jersey, which spends almost $13,000 per student.
This year, lawmakers approved a six percent funding increase for Utah schools, but we'll still be ranked last.
Officials say one reason K through 12 funding is so low here is that Utah only has one education budget-- and we've chosen to put more money toward higher education than other states.
