LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Two 16-year-old Boy Scouts boys have been accused of stealing from an agency where they were doing an Eagle Scout service project.
The boys, from a Providence and Logan Boy Scout troop, were painting the interior walls at the Community Abuse Prevention Services Agency last month.
CAPSA employees reported several things missing from their building. Two weeks later, police arrested the boys after they allegedly tried to make a purchase from Hastings Books, Music and Video using stolen gift cards.
The boys were referred to juvenile court on felony and misdemeanor charges of theft and unlawful possession of a financial transaction card.
Police still are trying to recover some of the nearly $500 worth of property that was reported missing from CAPSA.
Police Capt. Dave Tarbet said $350 worth of Hastings gift cards were taken from CAPSA, as well as a $50 phone card, a $65 label maker and $40 cash from a CAPSA employee's purse.
Tarbet said the boys tried to sell the label maker on eBay.
