SALT LAKE CITY - The Jazz have broken out of the lockout with a few roster moves. The names aren't household names, but they will flush out the Jazz roster. The Jazz lost veteran backup Ronnie Price to the Suns, but added a veteran in Jamaal Tinsley to fill that role. The Jazz also added Paul Carter and Scottie Reynolds to their preseason roster. The headlines are talking about Josh Howard talking to the Jazz. Who are these guys?
Here is a quick bio for each of them:
Jamaal Tinsley Tinsley is an 8-year veteran, who didn't play last year in the NBA. He averages just less than ten points per game in his career and 6.6 assists per game. He played for the Pacers for his first seven years then played one season with the Grizzlies. His best seasons came with the Pacers. In the '04-05 season he scored 15.4 points per game and in '07-08 he averaged 8.4 assists per game. He only played a full 72-game season once in his career, in '06-07.
Paul Carter Carter is an undrafted free agent that played in Cyprus overseas. He is 6-8 and will add depth to the small forward position. He played for three different colleges: Minnesota, Missouri State-West Plains Junior College and Illinois-Chicago. He averaged 14.7 points per game and 8 rebounds a game his senior year.
Scottie Reynolds Reynolds played at Villanova and is their second all-time career scorer. He is a score first point guard who averaged 18 points per game his senior year and led ‘Nova to a number 2 seed in the NCAA tournament that season. He was also named first team All-American team. A year after college he has played in Europe, in the NBA D-League and in the Philippines. He played three preseason games with the Suns last year also.
Josh Howard The Jazz met with Howard Tuesday to try and work out a deal. Howard is a 6-7 small forward that is lanky and can add defense and ranginess to the position. He has only played 72 games or more twice in his career and has only played 22 games in the last two. He is an 8-year veteran who spent six of those with the Mavs and the last two with the Wizards. He averages 15 points per game and six rebounds. He was a key to the Mavs first run into the NBA finals where they lost to the Heat. He is known for defense, but put up a career-high 47 points against the Jazz in 2007.
