TAYLORSVILLE — A 22-year-old man was killed in an apparent early-morning hit-and-run accident Monday.
Now investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of the vehicle that hit the man.
A passer-by spotted a shoe in a crosswalk at 4835 S. 2700 West just before 2 a.m. That led to the discovery of a man's body just off the side of the road, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Cory Snodgrass.
The victim was identified as Alexander Atkin. Investigators believe Atkin, who lived in the area, left a friend's house about 10 p.m. Sunday to walk home. Snodgrass said detectives were attempting to retrace Atkin's steps from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. They do not believe he was hit just after leaving his friend's house and his body went unnoticed for four hours.
The state medical examiner will determine how long he had been deceased.
Atkin's father, Brian Atkin, said his son was at a friend's house watching football and was walking home after, as he had done a hundred times before.
He remembered his son as an "all-around good kid" with a "big heart" who loved sports, particularly football. Atkin also noted that his son would not have crossed against the light.

Now, Brian Atkin wants the person who hit his son to show some responsibility and own up to what they did.
"It might be an accident, it might be an honest mistake. Someone might be in shock somewhere, I hope," he said.
But if no one steps forward soon and confesses, Atkin said he would, "be putting up a reward to get information that leads to anything."
There was some broken glass found in the road but little other evidence, Snodgrass said.
Atkin was charged Nov. 28 in Taylorsville Justice Court with misdemeanor failing to remain at the scene of an accident, according to Utah State Court records.
