(KSL News) A Utah County couple who hit and killed an elderly woman while drag racing is going to jail.

Tests show James and Karla Hutchings had meth in their systems when they decided to race each other down residential streets in American Fork on a rainy afternoon last April.

The speed limit is 25 miles per hour. The Hutchings were going 60 when James ignored a stop sign and slammed into Fern Clement's car.

The impact threw the 84-year-old grandmother out of her seat belt, through the window and onto the wet pavement. She died four days later.

James Hutchings will serve two consecutive terms of up to five years in prison. His wife will spend 200 days in jail and two years on probation.
