SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man police say was so intoxicated he was refused service at a bar instead opted to take a driving tour of the establishment's parking lot, going around and and around until, of course, officers showed up.
The man tried to get service at Mi Mexico, 3600 S. State, on Nov. 11. An employee at the bar, however, noticed the man's condition and refused to let him in. When the employee saw the disgruntled patron get into his car, he told him he shouldn't be driving, but the man ignored him, according to charges filed Monday in 3rd District Court.
When police arrived, Orlando Dominguez, 27, of Salt Lake City, allegedly told the officer he would not pass a field sobriety test. A breathalyzer measured his blood alcohol at 0.289 — or more than three times the legal limit, the charges state.
A subsequent criminal records check revealed five DUI convictions in the past 10 years for Dominguez — including 2009 and 2010 cases in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and a 2008 case in 3rd District Court that happened while he was on probation at the time. Two other cases originated in Salt Lake's Justice Court.
Dominguez, who goes by several aliases, was charged Monday with multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, a third-degree felony; driving on a suspended or revoked driver license; and violation of the open container law.
