KEARNS — A man and a woman died shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle in which they were passengers hit a sound wall and then crashed into a house.

Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said the driver of the car, who was treated for injures at a local hospital and then released to police, was driving south on 5600 West at high speeds. The car went out of control at the intersection at 5470 South, crossed the northbound lanes and struck the concrete wall and then a house at 5585 W. Highway Drive. No one was in the house at the time.

The male victim was ejected from the vehicle. The female remained in the car but suffered fatal injuries. Their identities were not released pending notification of relatives.

"We believe speed and alcohol were factors in this accident," Hoyal said. The crash remains under investigation, he said.
