FILLMORE — A 42-year-old West Jordan man was killed about 5:15 a.m. Saturday when the van he was driving on Interstate 15 in Fillmore slid on a snow-packed road and struck a light pole.
The victim was identified as Ulises Medina. Four other people in the van sustained minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Fillmore. The other passengers, the man's wife, mother and two children, were wearing safety restraints.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Medina was killed instantly once the van collided with the utility pole, striking the driver's side door.
Speed may have been a factor in the accident but the crash remains under investigation.
