IRON COUNTY — The Utah Division of Wildlife and Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife are offering an award for information on a poaching that occurred Nov. 13 west of the Bald Hills in Iron County.
A large antlered mule deer buck was found shot dead on Black Mountain, west of SR-130. Officers who responded to the scene also found a smaller two-point buck deer that had been shot and left to waste.
The DWR said witnesses reported seeing two men in white and gray sweatshirts, respectively, dragging the deer carcass. They allegedly entered a white crew cab truck, possibly an F-250 diesel, leaving the scene of the poaching around 4:30 p.m.
Anyone with information regarding this poaching or others is encouraged to call the confidential UTIP hotline at 800-662- 3337.
"In 2010, officers confirmed 902 illegally killed animals valued at over $370,000. This incident, and others like it, represent a loss to the resource and all citizens who value wildlife," the DWR said in a statement.
