CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- A Salt Lake executive has been charged in Iron County with drug possession.

Terrill Curtis, 48, is executive administrator of the American Academy of Professional Coders, a Salt Lake City-based organization for education and certification of coders -- employees who translate medical procedures into insurance codes.

Curtis appeared in 5th District Court Monday on two second-degree felony counts and two class A misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and one class A misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Preliminary hearing was set for April 26.

Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Jody Edwards, said the charges stem from a Feb. 18 incident on Interstate 15 in which deputies were told a female passenger in a red sport utility vehicle appeared frightened and was signaling to another driver to call 911.

Deputies pulled over a vehicle answering the description and found that the driver, Layne Hansen, 43, had two warrants and was operating the vehicle on a suspended license.

Edwards said a search of the vehicle found drugs and paraphernalia, and Curtis also allegedly had cocaine, prescription pills and paraphernalia.

Curtis was released on $30,000 bail on Feb. 20, and Hansen was released on $55,400 bail on Feb. 21.
