(Deseret Morning News) A former California gang member convicted of killing a Salt Lake model has been granted parole.
Eric Taboo Johnson will be released from prison in June. Johnson has served more than a decade for shooting his best friend Fritz Jocelyn between the eyes in 1992.
Prosecutors say he tried to cover up the crime by hiding the body and running to California with Jocelyn's jewelry and credit card.
Johnson claims it was an accident. He says the two were joking around and he didn't know the gun worked. The jury believed him and found him guilty of manslaughter, not murder.
Johnson has been ordered to abide by a curfew, complete anger management classes and pay restitution for his crimes.
