FRUIT HEIGHTS — Mark and Stacey Seegmiller were on their way home to decorate for Christmas Friday night when they were hit from behind by a car on Mountain Road.

Mark Seegmiller, 47, died on the way to the hospital. His wife Stacey Seegmiller, 44, was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

The family said she suffered extensive injuries, including multiple fractures, but is expected to recover. They described her as a fighter and said with the love of her family, she would pull through.

In a statement, the couple’s oldest daughter Sasha, 19, expressed her thoughts about her father.

“My dad is the most perfect man I have ever known. He is an amazing father, an adoring husband and a devout servant to his Heavenly Father," she said. "He is sorely missed and beloved by hundreds. Our parents taught us that through our faith in Jesus Christ, families are forever and we know we’ll see our dad again someday. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers. We are incredibly grateful.”

The Seegmillers had just left Stacey’s parents’ house in Fruit Heights with Christmas decorations. They were driving south on Mountain Road when they stopped to adjust the decorations in the bed of their pickup.

Authorities say their truck was partially in the lane of traffic.

The couple was out of their vehicle when they were hit from behind by a car, also heading south. The driver of that car said he was blinded by the snow and headlights from an oncoming vehicle.

“It appears that it was just a tragic accident,” said Davis County sheriff’s Sgt. Susan Poulsen.

The Seegmillers were married 22 years. They have four children ages 11 to 19.

The children said they have no malice for the driver who hit their parents.
