Tonya Papanikolas Reporting A police officer was almost run over this afternoon after witnessing a fight. The suspect took off through the streets of downtown before officers finally caught him.
Two men started fighting at the Temple View motel. A couple officers happened to be near there and saw the fight.

Det. Robi Snyder, Salt Lake Police Dept: "They approached the males, attempted to talk to them, make contact, when a male got in a car and took off. Tried to drive out of the parking lot, veered toward one of our officers who had to jump out of the way."
The officer wasn't hurt. Police pursued the suspect for a while down 4th and 3rd Wests until they realized the streets were crowded with people. For safety reasons, they stopped the chase, but they kept looking for the man.
An officer who's been on the force more than 30 years went to an area by 10th North and 9th West, looking for the car and happened to find the man. The suspect was arrested.
Police say the man didn't have a driver's license, he also has a couple protective orders against him out of the state of Indiana.

We don't know what those protective orders were for or what the man had been fighting about at the Salt Lake motel, but he could be charged with aggravated assault against a police officer.
