Sandra Yi ReportingState Police called off a high-speed chase last night, but still managed to arrest the suspect.
Investigators aren't sure why the suspect refused to stop as he sped along I-15, but they believe he was drunk behind the wheel.
Sgt. Keith Dockstader: "We had a sergeant that was enforcing speed southbound on I-15, about 4500 south."
That's where he clocked a speeding car at 99 miles an hour. A UHP dash camera shows the driver weaving in and out of traffic. Then, instead of pulling over, he went faster.
Sgt. Keith Dockstader: "The vehicle increased its speed to 100, 105."
At the 215 interchange the suspect drove on the shoulder. He got off the freeway at 7200 south, then ran a red light at State Street.
For safety reasons the UHP called off the chase, but not before getting information that would eventually lead to the driver's arrest.
Sgt. Keith Dockstader: "We ran the plate on the database system."
Troopers tracked the car to a Midvale home.
Keith Dockstader: "When we came to the residence, though, we did find the vehicle."
The suspect was there too. Troopers arrested 23-year old Semisi Hosea.
Sgt. Keith Dockstader: "There was certainly a strong odor of alcohol, and then there were open containers in the vehicle."
Investigators say Hosea's blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.
Sgt. Keith Dockstader: "We're very fortunate in this one no one got hurt and we were still able to apprehend the suspect."
Hosea was booked into jail for felony fleeing and DUI. Investigators say he also had a suspended license.
