(KSL News) Transportation officials want to ease traffic congestion on I-15 in Utah County, but they've got a long stretch of road ahead of them.
I-15 along the Utah County-Salt Lake County line is often congested, and commuters don't have any alternate routes. Motorists in Salt Lake City have detours like I-215, Bangerter Highway, I-80. But not in Utah County.
Officials want to upgrade several major traffic spots and give commuters more choices. But they haven't gotten the funding yet.
This year, legislators set aside 100 million dollars for transportation-- that's for the whole state. The Utah County projects alone are estimated to cost about 285 million dollars.
But as the county's population continues to quickly expand, officials say the gridlock will only get more unbearable.
