Gene Kennedy ReportingA threat against Hillcrest High school was serious enough that Midvale police are investigating. Someone made a Columbine-style threat at the high school. Now, one student has been removed.
The threat was written in the boys' bathroom. It was a non-specific threat to kill teachers on St. Patrick's Day.
Midvale police think they know who made the threat. The student's parents are cooperating with police and they have removed their child from school. But Midvale's police chief says there is not enough evidence to arrest and charge the student at this point.
With the student removed from school yesterday, classes went on as normal today. But some students called each other in a phone chain and said, ‘don't go to school!'
Erick Bush, Junior: "It was pretty freaky. They caught whoever it was."
A spokesperson for the Jordan School District is not saying how police were led to this particular student, only that handwriting and security cameras are typical resources of these kinds of investigations.
You can see the increased police presence from the front of the school. There is also additional security inside. The school wants the day to end as safely as it began.
